Khulisa were pleased to support Crest‘s recent publication ‘Rewiring Justice: Transforming punishment and rehabilitation in the 21st Century.’ Alongside other UK and international practitioners, our work was was highlighted as an innovation that can be learned from in the justice system. In particular, our methodology and evidence that ‘prevention and rehabilitation efforts should target risk factors associated with social marginalisation, exclusion and crime at each stage along the criminal justice journey’. Khulisa continues to deliver and advocate for approaches that tackle the root causes of violent and anti-social behaviours and agree this requires both better integration of services (e.g. between prison rehabilitation and resettlement services) and deepening of relationships between those in the CJS and the professionals supporting them. We welcome and support the publication’s additional recommendations for greater devolution of design and spending to local PCCs and the development of new multi-disciplinary teams that are better able to respond to the complex needs of ‘prolific offenders’.
